I relate to this a lot. I still find myself missing the music especially. I recently attended an event that involved me being at Mass for the first time in ages, and was reminded that it’s for the best that it’s in my past. Organized religion is not for me, but there are definitely aspects that I miss.

I have several stories in my manuscript about worship music and certain sacraments that I needed to keep and not walk away from when I left the church. Those are still the traditions of my heritage, even if the ways I practice now don't look the way they once did. A couple years after I left, I had a similar experience as you. I ended up unexpectedly at a service with some of the people I did mean to leave in the past. That experience showed me how much I'd grown and how safe, home, and held I'd become on the outside. I can't wait for you to read it!

your story is so similar to mine in so many ways / i was born and bred in the baptist church / my father was the pastor / that was all i knew until one day . . . hmmm maybe i should write my own story / ps i couldn’t get your ‘buy me a coffee’ to work

Thanks, Rohn – would love to read that! Not sure how we crossed paths originally, but we seem to share a common connection to Sunset Ridge!

Where in the Buy Me a Coffee process were you having issues? Was it the links in Substack/email, or payment on BMAC? Please share more so I can fix that!
