Hey friends – I want to invite you to The Artist’s Wayfinding: An Experiment.
My friend Meghann and I are offering this new weekly space for 3 months to reconnect to our creativity together!
The vision
We will lean into our collective power with art, build global creative community, and strengthen practices that ground us and make life more beautiful in these uncertain, wild times.
Have you been paying attention? We don't know what comes next. No one does. But if we have to do collapse, let's make sure our collective creativity is a resource and companion that can carry us through.
Creative revolution is already happening.
The purpose
By reconnecting to the power of art and story, we remember our humanity in a way that supports the collective.
By connecting with people who also want to explore these topics and practices, we will be in good company as we get curious and experiment with how creativity helps us get by in this messy world.
By practice I do not mean “practice makes perfect” in a productivity or performance sense. I mean for us to get in touch with presence and perspective through inviting a little more beauty and connection into our lives. We think this is best done together!
The experiment
The Artist's Wayfinding: An Experiment was born out of a something called Coffee Breaks where Meghann and I have been meeting weekly to upend loneliness in entrepreneurship and creative practice. We want to invite others into what we’re already doing and learning from!
We’ll be drawing inspiration from The Artist’s Way book, by Julia Cameron, and other resources to experiment with interesting ways of cultivating our personal and collective creativity.
Part of each session we'll discuss topics like Identity, Power, Abundance, Compassion, Strength, and Possibility through reflective questions and conversations. We'll also spend time each session practicing with new creative tools and creating together in our own places, something like creative co-working with prompts or guidance.
To deepen creative practices on our own, we'll set off separately on suggested assignments designed to blend creativity into our week outside of the gathering, knowing a collective of people around the world are experimenting in their own places right alongside us.
For inspiration along the way, we’ll be sharing resources like art, books, poetry, and music, and also asking what's inspiring you lately.
We believe creativity is not just for artists, and this experiment is not just for artists. It’s for anyone who wants to wander together toward new ways of being, knowing, and creating.
How many of us are hungry for these things yet unsure how to cultivate them inside the noise of this moment?
Creativity is just one path.
Meghann and I are not experts or gurus. We’re simply fellow humans willing to experiment on the way to a more creative future, as we can help it! Bring an open mind and curious posture. Creativity is about using our imaginations and paying attention, and perhaps that leads to asking hard questions or going against the grain. We’re going to do all of the above.
The logistics
On Zoom
Every Friday for 14 weeks
3-4:30pm ET // 1-2:30pm MT
March 21–June 20
There's space for you to show up exactly as you are. We get to our most essential, creative selves when we are safe to unmask and stop assimilating. And if you need a little something extra for better accessing our gatherings, we got you. Just let us know.
We encourage you to make space to really drop in to the sessions. We’re gathering on Zoom with cameras on if you’re comfortable with that, but we understand if you need to multitask or take care of your life if it means still showing up.
Show up as you’re able. Though we think you'll get the most out of the experience if you participate in the 14-week series, you are welcome to join when it works. There’s no RSVP procedure, but if you’d like the recurring calendar invite, you can use this as your reminder of when and where to join on Fridays.
Show up how you’re able. There's no pressure to share unless you're drawn to do so, but I hope you will because then this experiment can beautifully evolve to best nurture the people in it. Sometimes this means risking a bit of vulnerability for connection. I promise that I’ll be doing the same!
No need to buy The Artist's Way book unless you want to. Here’s my affiliate link to the book on Bookshop.org, which supports my favorite local bookstore and gives me a little change in my book piggy bank. Your local library definitely has it, so check there too! Over the course of the experiment, we will be sharing other resources and work from more diverse voices and leaders, so feel free to wait to invest in those instead.
There’s no official art supply list, but you may want to have some art or writing supplies on hand that you would enjoying working with during the experiment. We will be offering prompts as suggestions for you to listen to your life and decide how you’d like to bring forth your own creativity. So plan to bring some tools to play with!
Want to join? Comment below or message me, and I’ll send you the Zoom link and calendar invite.
