I reclaimed my voice this year
As I wrote 300 pages
And a hundred poems of my life
And ✨33✨ newsletters
And a million dreams
🎶 for the world we’re gonna make
I can tell you in the memoir I’m writing –
That I started writing last year
Or maybe 33.75 years ago from the womb
Which was the first home I didn’t want to leave
(They had to cut me out)
And I’ve had to lose and reclaim a lot of homes since –
This book is about those homes.
It’s about faith and belonging
It’s about climbing and ballet
It’s about life around tables all around the world
It’s about rootedness and place
It’s about refuge and refugees
It’s about homesickness and grief
It’s about beauty and resilience
It’s about coffee and Communion
It’s about alignment and integrity
It’s about family and healing
It’s about staying and leaving
It’s about leaving and staying
It’s about the midwives who’ve delivered me into Light.
It’s writing itself as I wander home
Always feeling my way
Toward belonging and love and home.
Like, oh so human.
Like any of us,
Like all of us,
For all of us.
And to all little girls I’ve been along the way to 33,
